Harry Maguire opened up about his Manchester United teammate Bruno Fernandes, who was sent off the pitch after picking up a red card against Wolves in the Premier League. The match ended in a 2-0 loss for the Red Devils on December 26, at Molineux Stadium.

Bruno Fernandes received two yellow cards against Wolves for committing fouls on Matheus Cunha and Nélson Semedo in the 18th and 47th minute respectively. The Portuguese star had to walk off the pitch just minutes into the second half, leaving the visitors with ten men for the rest of the clash.

Matheus Cunha took the lead for Wolves with a right-footed shot from a difficult angle and long range following a corner in the 58th minute. The 25-year-old Brazilian also assisted the hosts' second goal of the match netted by Hwang Hee-Chan moments before the final whistle.

While speaking to Amazon Prime following Manchester United's 2-0 loss against Wolves, Harry Maguire addressed Fernandes' red card and mentioned that the 30-year-old midfielder was deeply affected by the send-off. The English defender said (via @UtdDistrict on X):

"He's a big player for us. He'll be disappointed, it'll hurt him. He'll feel like he let the lads down but we're in this together."

During his time on the pitch, Bruno Fernandes had 43 touches and one key pass while maintaining a pass accuracy of 82%. He had no shots on target and lost possession 13 times. The Manchester United captain has registered six goals and 10 assists in 27 appearances across competitions for the club this season.

Harry Maguire, on the other hand, made five clearances against Wolves while having one shot on target. The 31-year-old centre-back has contributed to five clean sheets and registered one goal in 16 appearances for Manchester United in the 2024-25 campaign

Manchester United boss on Bruno Fernandes' red card against Wolves in PL

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim shared his thoughts on Bruno Fernandes' red card in Manchester United's 18th Premier League match of the season. During his post-match press conference, the Portuguese manager said (via SPORTbible):

"I am always frustrated with the red card, but it can happen as he always wants to go for the ball," said Amorim when asked about his sending off. It is not like he wants to stop the player with a yellow [card]. He wanted to go for the ball, the guy got there first and there is a contact and that thing is tough on him also."

Ruben Amorim also mentioned how Fernandes' red card impacted United's chances against Wolves and told Amazon Prime:

"The sending off was really hard for us. It's so tough to win games in this league with 11 men. With 10 men, it's more difficult. We have to focus on that."

Counting the one against Wolves, Bruno Fernandes has now received three red cards this season, becoming the first United player to be sent off thrice in a campaign in all competitions since Nemanja Vidic in 2008/09.

Bruno Fernandes' bookings against the Wanderers also added to Ruben Amorim's worries as the midfielder will now face a one-game suspension as his red card against Tottenham in October was overturned. The former Sporting star will miss the Red Devils' next Premier League clash against Newcastle United on December 30, at Old Trafford.
