Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged his old club to sign Real Madrid's top transfer target Alphonso Davies as Andy Robertson's replacement. Roberson, who joined the Merseyside club in July 2017 from Hull City, turned 30 earlier this year.

During his time at Anfield, the Scottish captain has made 315 appearances, bagging 11 goals and 66 assists across all competitions. Robertson has also won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, the FIFA World Club Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with the Reds.

The Reds signed Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiacos in August 2020. However, the Greek defender has failed to challenge Robertson for a spot in the starting XI. Tsimikas has suffered from multiple injuries, making 97 appearances across all competitions, and bagging 17 assists.

While speaking to BetBrain, Murphy billed Andy Robertson as one of the best left-backs in the club's history. He said:

"Considering what Andy Robertson has done for Liverpool and the level of performances he's delivered over the years, he's now in the conversation when people talk about the best left-backs Liverpool have ever had. There's been some incredible left-backs in some unbelievable Liverpool teams, so let's praise him for what he's done in his career - he's a winner and a phenomenal player."

Danny Murphy later stated that Konstantinos Tsimikas can't replace Robertson at Anfield as a result, the Reds should consider signing Alphonso Davies. He added:

"I don't think Konstantinos Tsimikas is ever going to replace Robertson or play instead of him on a consistent basis, so I think Robertson and Liverpool would benefit from him having real competition at left-back and for Arne Slot to look long-term at the position."

Davies' current contract with Bayern Munich will expire in the summer of 2025 and he's yet to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga giants. However, if Arne Slot's side enters the race to sign Davies, they will face competition from Real Madrid, who have been huge admirers of the 24-year-old.

Liverpool continue contract talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold amid Real Madrid interest: Reports

Liverpool are reportedly in conversations with Trent Alexander-Arnold regarding a new contract, as per journalist David Ornstein. The English defender's ongoing contract at Anfield will expire next summer and he's yet to sign a new deal.

Alexander-Arnold is about to enter the last six months of his contract with the Merseyside club. As per Ornstein, the Reds are keen to pen a new deal with the Englishman.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old over a move to Santiago Bernabeu in the upcoming transfer windows. Los Blancos view Trent Alexander-Arnold as a long-term replacement for Spanish defender Dani Carvajal.

Apart from the 25-year-old, the contracts of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will also expire in the summer of 2025.
