Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella recently talked about his viral song about Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, which he sang after Spain won Euro 2024 in Germany. The Spaniard claimed that the Norwegian striker took it "personally," but added that the matter is now settled.

According to reports, Haaland wasn't impressed with Cucurella's song as the lyrics included:

"Haaland, tremble, because Cucurella is coming."

Speaking to Efe, Cucurella claimed that song's coverage in England, which was sang in jest, led to Haaland taking offense. He said (via Goal):

"Yes, in England too, a lot of attention was given to that and these things happen. I am very happy and I think that if someone has a song sung with his name it is because he is a top player or a world star, the name of a player who is not known would not be used. Everyone is happy because he scored and I am still just as happy to win the Euro. I would do it again, these things happen and that is all."

The Spaniard also added that Chelsea teammate and former City player, Cole Palmer, helped smooth things over with Erling Haaland.

"In the end, in England they took it a little out of context and I don't think he [Haaland] understood it either. He read what they said and took it a little personally. Nowadays people take things very personally, but then they had some awards and my colleague [Cole] Palmer asked him about me and that was it. It was just an anecdote," Cucurella said.

There seemed to be some animosity between the two players when Manchester City faced Chelsea in the Premier League on August 18. Erling Haaland scored City's opener in that match as they secured a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

When former Chelsea boss claimed he advised club to sign Erling Haaland

Back in 2023, former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard claimed that he pushed internally for the west London club to sign Haaland before he moved to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020. The Norwegian striker joined the Bundesliga side from RB Salzburg and eventually joined the Blues' Premier League rivals Manchester City. He has been an instant success in English football.

Speaking about his desire to sign the striker when he was still in Austria, Lampard said in May 2023 (via ESPN):

"Was it close? He'll only know the answer to that. What stage did it get to? From our point, I was certainly pushing it. I'm not sure what the appetite was everywhere else in the club to do it. The competition was big to take him because he was an outstanding player and I think there was a buyout clause at the time which was relatively reasonable, considering the player."

Lampard then heaped praise on Erling Haaland, adding:

"I think he's special, I thought he'd adapt straight away and show his level. I didn't consider it that closely but with the level of player and his record of scoring, firstly in Austria, secondly for his country and in the Bundesliga, which is not an easy league. I've got real respect for the player."

Erling Haaland has continued to find the back of the net with frightening regularity, bagging seven goals from his opening three league games in the 2024/25 season. He has 97 goals and 14 assists in 102 games for City at the time of writing.
