Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes new head coach Ruben Amorim was frustrated with Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund, and Marcus Rashford against Ipswich Town. The Red Devils took an early lead in the game at Portman Road on Sunday, November 24, through Rashford.
However, the hosts responded through Omari Hutchinson in the 43rd minute. Amorim brought on the cavalry after the break, but Manchester United had to settle for a point.
Speaking after the game, as cited by The Daily Mail, Hargreaves insisted that the Portuguese forward wasn't pleased with the positioning of Dalot, Zirkzee, and Hojlund.
"He was pretty frustrated, I’m not going to lie. He was right in front of me and he was really, really frustrated with a lot of things. I think initially Dalot’s positioning, I think he was a little bit frustrated with that in the first half," said Hargreaves.
He continued:
"I think the midfield balance he didn’t really like, and when Zirkzee came on I don’t think he was overly happy with his positioning and Hojlund as well."
Hargreaves added that Amorim was also frustrated with Rashford during the game.
"I don't think Marcus knew at times where he needed to be when the ball was in certain areas and Ruben was quite frustrated with that. I think maybe Garnacho comes off and Marcus plays on the left," said Hargreaves."
He added:
"Even Zirkzee played as a No.10 and I don’t think that suited him. I think Marcus prefers to play on the left, and you could see that today."
Manchester United are currently 12th in the Premier League after 12 games, 15 points behind leaders Liverpool.
When is Manchester United's next game?
Manchester United are back in action on Thursday, November 28, when they face Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford in the Europa League. The Red Devils haven't had the best of times in Europe this season either, registering just one win in four games.
That victory, however, came against PAOK before the international game, when Ruud van Nistelroy was in charge as interim manager. Manchester United are 15th in the Europa League table at the moment and cannot afford to drop points this week.
Amorim is likely to make changes to his starting lineup. Luke Shaw came off the bench and could feature in midweek as well. Leny Yoro, who is yet to kick a ball since his summer move, could also make the squad.
