Troy Deeney has urged Manchester United to sell Antony as the Brazilian is reluctant to work hard. He believes that the winger was not doing enough on the pitch against Tottenham Hotspur, and the team started doing better as soon as he got substituted.
Speaking in the CBS Sports studio, Deeney stated that he was not trying to make Antony a scapegoat but the winger was frustrating to watch. He added that Manchester United should offer the Brazilian to any club that is willing to sign Marcus Rashford.
He said:
"As soon as Manchester United took Antony off, everybody else started running. They’ve got to cut ties with him. I don’t want to make him the scapegoat but, honestly, watching him is so frustrating. This is your big moment. He doesn’t run, he doesn’t sprint… just get him out. If you’re getting rid of Marcus Rashford, whoever is taking him, we’ll pay you to take him [Antony] as well. Get him out the club."
Antony has not managed to do well at Manchester United since his reported €100 million move from Ajax. He has scored just 12 times and assisted five goals in his 92 matches for the club.
Ruben Amorim ready to give Antony a fresh start at Manchester United
Ruben Amorim spoke about Antony earlier this week and claimed that he was not judging any player based on their performance under Erik ten Hag. He claimed that the players will have to prove themselves in training and on the pitch to earn a place in his squad.
Speaking to the club website ahead of the Tottenham match, Amorim stated:
"I think, when we started, everybody is from scratch. We took like one month to explain that everything has a new beginning because every person deserves a new beginning and the power is in their hands because, if they show it, I will put them in to play. I just want to win. They are responsible to play, not me. He did a great job improving in that position. He has to defend more but he has the ability to do it and has to do it himself."
Antony played 55 minutes against Tottenham and was taken off when they were 0-3 down to Spurs. The Red Devils managed to score three goals with Amad Diallo, who replaced the Brazilian also getting on the scoresheet. However, Ruben Amorim's side could not get a win and ended up losing 3-4.
