Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to try to replace Andy Robertson

Liverpool great and pundit Jamie Carragher has issued his verdict on who should be the club's choice to replace Andy Robertson in the long term. The Reds ace has come in for criticism over his waning performances this season, leading to talk of the club potentially replacing him.

Since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, Robertson has been one of the world's best left-backs, providing quality in attacking and defensive situations. The Scotland international appears, however, to be losing some of his best qualities and was rotated with Kostas Tsimikas in Arne Slot's first games in charge this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher has advised the club to make a move to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, with whom they have been linked. The former defender pointed out that the club needs to take advantage of its ties to the Cherries through its director Richard Hughes.

“(Against Fulham) He doesn’t look like he’s running back fully, he’s had a whack (earlier in the half) then gingerly goes to control the ball before getting a red card.”
“He needs help. Liverpool haven’t got any back-up and it’s something they need to address in January.”
‘(Milos) Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The technical director who brought him to Bournemouth (Richard Hughes) is now the sporting director at Liverpool.”
“Kerkez looks like a full back and he’s aggressive. He’s been superb since he came into the Premier League and is one to watch in the future whether he stays or moves on.”

Andy Robertson, 30, has appeared 14 times in the Premier League this season for Liverpool, failing to score or provide any assists for his side as he was previously prone to do. Kerkez, on the other hand, has a goal and two assists for Bournemouth in 16 Premier League appearances.

Robertson saw red in his side's most recent game, a 2-2 draw against Fulham on Saturday. The left-back has also given away penalties against Southampton and Real Madrid in recent weeks, as well.

Liverpool eyeing move for Crystal Palace star - Reports

Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they look to strengthen their backline. The Premier League leaders are preparing for the future and have identified the England international as a good target at the back.

Guehi was one of the stars for England at Euro 2024 and quickly became a top target for Newcastle United, but they failed with their £65 million bid for him. The Eagles captain has continued to be linked with a move elsewhere this season after making 16 league appearances for the side.

The Reds have a succession plan and have signed Giorgi Mamardashvili to eventually replace goalkeeper Alisson. Their interest in 24-year-old Marc Guehi is to potentially take over from 33-year-old captain Virgil Van Dijk in the summer of 2025.
