Crystal Palace shot-stopper Dean Henderson has backed Manchester United star Amad Diallo to achieve success in the near future.
Diallo, who left Atalanta to join the Red Devils in a switch worth up to £37 million in 2021, has popped up as a promising squad option for his club of late. The 22-year-old registered two goals and one assist in 12 matches after recovering from a knee injury last campaign.
During his recent stint with the England team at the recently concluded UEFA Euro 2024, Henderson was asked to name the most underrated star he has faced. The ex-United man replied (h/t Mirror):
"Look out for Amad. Obviously, he's broken onto the scene this season. He's going to be top, top."
Earlier this Saturday (July 20), Diallo scored the opener in Manchester United's 2-0 pre-season friendly victory over Scottish giants Rangers.
After the end of the friendly match, Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag claimed that Diallo can prove his talent next term. He said (h/t Mirror):
"As you say, he made a very good progression last season. The past two seasons he was on loan [at Rangers and EFL Championship side Sunderland]. and then he was planned to play a role but he had a very bad injury in pre-season that dropped him a little bit back. But in the last games of the season, he showed his assets. Today, this season has to become his season."
Manchester United urged to sign a striker
Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes asserted that his former club should add an experienced centre-forward to their ranks this summer. He said (h/t Metro):
"When I think about United, I think about brilliant centre-forwards. I think they've had one young one last year in Rasmus Hojlund who they have had to rely on and it was a little bit unfair. He's a young player, still learning the game. They've bought another young one [Joshua Zirkzee]. I would like to see an experienced centre-forward come and help with that and virtually guarantee goals."
Rasmus Hojlund, who left Atalanta last summer, netted 16 goals in 43 games in all competitions for Manchester United in the 2023-24 term.
Joshua Zirkzee, who arrived in a deal over £36 million earlier this July, bagged 12 goals in 37 overall appearances for Bologna last campaign.
