Jermaine Pennant on Arsenal's goalscoring troubles

Former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant believes Matheus Cunha could be a good signing for the Gunners. He said that the north London side have become predictable and need reinforcements in attack.

Arsenal are fifth in the list of the top goalscoring teams in the Premier League this season. They have had to rely on set pieces a lot this season, having failed to score an open-play goal in their last three games. Their attack has been heavily dependent on Bukayo Saka, which has raised major concerns among the fans.

Former Arsenal forward Jermaine Pennant also highlighted this issue in a recent interview, saying (via Tribal Football):

“I think they’ve become a little bit predictable, actually. I was at the game on Saturday and they play the ball out to Saka for him to drift in or get a cross in. They don’t have enough variation at the moment.
"(Kai) Havertz is not chipping in with goals and if Saka’s not delivering, they’re relying on set-pieces. (Gabriel) Martinelli has got all the ‘great player’ attributes but his end product is a bit off at the moment. I think that's why Arsenal are talking about whether they need a new left side player.”

When asked if Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha would be a good signing for the Gunners, Pennant said:

“He's an exciting player. He's in a struggling Wolves-team, but he can score goals. He’s a great player, great ability, he can create his own stuff. I think it may be a good signing."

Cunha, 25, has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 17 games across competitions this season. Along with Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing him.

Arsenal-linked Matheus Cunha charged by FA with misconduct

The English FA have charged Wolves forward Matheus Cunha with misconduct after his spat during their defeat against Ipswich Town. After the clash at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday, December 14, a scuffle erupted between two teams. Some videos showed Cunha raising his hands against some Ipswich Town staff members.

FA released a statement on Tuesday, which read:

"Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday, 14 December. The forward allegedly acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He has until Thursday, 19 December, to provide a response."

If Cunha appeals and it's unsuccessful, it could mean a potential ban for the forward from domestic competitions.

This would be a huge blow for Wolves as Cunha has been one of their best players this season amidst a tough season. They sit 19th in the table and also sacked Gary O'Neil after the Ipswich defeat.
