Troy Deeney is disappointed with how Marcus Rashford's career is panning out amid speculation Manchester United are prepared to sell the forward. The English attacker has been told he could end his career like former teammate Jesse Lingard.
Rashford, 27, has come under criticism this season, with many questioning his consistency. The 60-cap England international has managed seven goals and three assists in 23 games across competitions.
Manchester United are reportedly prepared to listen to offers of around £40 million for Rashford. He sits on £325,000 at Old Trafford, and the club are considering getting him off their books.
Deeney feels a United exit will mean Rashford failed to fulfil his potential. The former Watford captain argued that the player should show more maturity. He told talkSPORT:
"You're a baby. What is he, 27 now? Meant to be at the peak of your powers. Obviously the financials are taken care of now. Who are you as a person? What do you stand for?"
Deeney compared Rashford to Lingard:
"I'm just dissapointed, because I think he could have been a world-beater. He could have been absolute shining star and clud legend. And I think he's going to tarnish that. And he's going to ultimately end up like someone like Jesse Lingard."
Lingard, 31, left Manchester United in 2022 with his spell at Old Trafford viewed polarisingly due to his personal life. He made 232 appearances, scoring 35 goals and providing 20 assists, including an FA Cup final winner in 2016.
Marcus Rashford's character has been questioned throughout his career, and there are suggestions the club have concerns over his private life. He was expected to become the Red Devils' biggest star since Wayne Rooney.
Manchester United could replace Marcus Rashford with Newcastle United's Alexander Isak: Reports
Manchester United are set for a rebuild under Ruben Amorim following the Portuguese coach's arrival in November. He's seen the glaring issues in the Red Devils squad, with a lack of goalscoring potency a problem.
Football Insider (via Football FanCast) reports Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is a target amid a fine spell at St James' Park. The Swedish frontman has bagged seven goals and three assists in 15 games across competitions this season.
Isak, 25, could come in as Marcus Rashford's replacement, although he'd likely lead the line for Amorim rather than play on the left wing. He's also on Chelsea and Arsenal's radars and could cost a hefty fee of £115 million.
