Donny van de Beek has named Manchester United teammate Luke Shaw as the most underrated player he's shared the pitch with.
The Dutch midfielder hasn't had the best of times at Old Trafford and is currently on loan with German side Eintracht Frankfurt till the end of the season. However, he has spent sufficient time with Shaw in training and in competitive fixtures.
Overall, the players have shared the pitch 32 times across competitions for the Manchester outfit and are yet to record a joint goal contribution. When asked to choose the most underrated teammate from his career, Van de Beek said in an interview with Dutch publication Ziggo Sport (via Metro):
"Luke Shaw. Very underrated player, he's very good."
However, it's uncertain as to whether the pair will play together at Old Trafford once again. The 27-year-old midfielder looks as though he's surplus to requirements at Manchester United and could be moved on in the summer.
Eintracht Frankfurt themselves reportedly have an option to buy the player for £9.5 million but are believed to be against such a move. Overall, the former Ajax star has made 62 appearances across competitions for the Red Devils, bagging two goals and assists each.
Meanwhile, Shaw has struggled with injuries yet again this season. He's played 15 matches across competitions throughout the 2023/24 campaign, managing a single assist and no goals.
With Shaw and Tyrell Malacia injured, Diogo Dalot has had to fill in at left-back during the course of the season.
Erik ten Hag says he's unsure as to whether Luke Shaw will be fit for Manchester United's FA Cup final
Despite an underwhelming season, Manchester United have the opportunity to end it with a bang by claiming the FA Cup trophy. They face local rivals Machester City in the final of the competition on May 25.
However, they may be without left-back Luke Shaw, who continues to battle his way to full fitness. Speaking about whether the defender would make it in time for that match, Ten Hag said (via The Guardian):
"For the FA Cup final, we're working on it. In this moment; I think it's less of a chance that he will make it but there is still a chance. He had a setback, and now we have to found out how he is."
Shaw's last league appearance came in February when Manchester United defeated Luton Town 2-1. Currently, the Red Devils are eighth in the standings, three points behind sixth-placed Chelsea.
