Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur defender Jason Cundy has named Brentford attacker Bryan Mbuemo the perfect replacement for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah. The Reds could lose their talisman at the end of the season, with his contract set to expire in June 2025.
Salah is having a great season under Arne Slot, propelling Liverpool to the top of the Premier League and Champions League table. The Egypt international has registered 15 goals and 12 assists in 21 games across competitions this campaign.
However, the Merseyside giants could soon have to replace Salah as they are yet to tie him down with a new deal.
Jason Cundy has suggested that Liverpool could look towards Brentford winger Bryan Mbuemo as Mohamed Salah's successor. He insisted that the Cameroon international's style of play is similar to Salah.
Cundy told talkSPORT via Caught Offside:
“I think, when you look at what might happen at Liverpool with Salah, I’m looking at Mbeumo and what he’s capable of. He’s a little mini Salah off that right hand side, [cutting in onto] his left foot. He has got years [left at the top level]. He has got years."
Mbuemo has been a key player for Brentford since joining them in 2019 from Troyes. He helped the Bees make it to the Premier League from the Championship and establish themselves in the top tier of English football.
The Cameroonian has been Brentford's key man up front this season with nine goals and two assists in 17 appearances. He has played 217 games for Brentford, scoring 59 times while producing 43 assists.
Liverpool preparing a move for Barcelona midfielder previously wanted by Manchester United: Reports
Liverpool are reportedly keen on Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong as the potential replacement for Ryan Gravenberch. Gravenberch has been heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid following his exceptional showings in a number six role under Arne Slot.
As reported by Caught Offside, the Reds want Gravenberch's compatriot De Jong to replace him if Real Madrid lures the 22-year-old away from Anfield. De Jong was regarded as one of the best midfield talents in the world when he joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019.
However, the midfielder has not quite been able to live up to his reported €75 million price tag at Camp Nou. He has made only 12 appearances under Hansi Flick this season but has started just two games.
De Jong was previously linked with a switch to Manchester United and the Red Devils even agreed a deal with Barca. However, he snubbed them in favor of staying at Barcelona but Manchester United reportedly still maintain an interest.
