Manchester City have recorded interest in signing Arsenal target Riccardo Calafiori during this summer transfer window. That's according to former City defender Micah Richards who has said that the Bologna centre-back is pulling the attention of several big clubs.
Following a barren outing during the recently concluded 2023-24 season, Arsenal appear to be determined to go all out to bolster their squad this summer. The north Londoners have been linked with multiple names over the last couple of weeks, with Riccardo Calafiori's being one of the loudest.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are closely monitoring the player's situation, although they're yet to enter into negotiations with his club.
Meanwhile, Micah Richards has come out to confirm that Manchester City are also interested in securing the 22-year-old's signature. The former City defender made the revelation while speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“Amazing. He’s the one that everyone is talking about and all the big clubs are linked with him,” the Englishman said. “He plays his football for Bologna and I think Arsenal are interested, I’ve heard Man City are interested."
“Really good on the ball, can score goals, can defend and when I’ve been doing the games I’ve been concentrating on Bastogne but Calafiori has been equally as impressive,” Richards added.
Riccardo Calafiori enjoyed a decent outing last season, making 37 appearances for Bologna across all competitions and recording two goals and five assists to his name. He is currently participating at Euro 2024, where he's featured in all of Italy's three group phase games so far, playing 90 minutes in each of them. It remains to be seen how far he'll go in the competition.
Manchester City and Arsenal to reignite rivalry in Premier League title race next season?
The Premier League witnessed an epic title race in the recently concluded season as Arsenal and Manchester City battled each other until the very end. The Cityzens eventually triumphed but it doesn't look like that will be the end.
Arsenal will be gearing up to go one step further and finally lay claim on the English crown next season. With the Cityzens still looking like the team to beat, we can expect another epic ride in the top flight.
Meanwhile, the battle begins with how the two sides fare in the transfer window this summer. They both need upgrades in key areas and have been linked with multiple names in recent weeks. The stronger team will, of course, go all the way next term.
