Ex-Arsenal attacker Jermaine Pennant has suggested that Sweden and Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak would be a good signing for the Mikel Arteta-coached outfit.
Isak, who has reportedly drawn interest from Arsenal and Chelsea since the turn of the year, turned a lot of heads with his stellar performances last season. He scored 25 goals and laid out two assists in 40 appearances across competitions for Eddie Howe's side last term.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund striker has failed to replicate his form this season. He has found the back of the opposition net just two times and registered one assist in eight total games for Newcastle.
Speaking recently to Tribal Football, Pennant claimed that Arsenal need a number nine like Isak to provide competition to Kai Havertz in all competitions. He opined:
"He's just come back from an injury, so he's probably a little bit off the boil. But when he's fully fit, we've seen what he can do. He's prolific, he knows the back of the net, when he's match-fit. I think all-round he is probably better than Havertz, though they're similar players in style. I just think he acts a little bit quicker and better around the box and I think he will fit in just like a glove at Arsenal."
Isak, 25, has a contract until June 2028 at his current team.
On the other hand, Havertz has cemented himself as the north London outfit's first-choice striker since the middle of the 2023-24 season. He has opened the 2024-25 campaign on a fine note, bagging six goals and providing one assist in 13 matches across all competitions.
Arsenal aiming to sign 28-year-old attacker
Ex-Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur scout Mick Brown has claimed that the Gunners are keen to sign Leroy Sane on a free transfer next summer. He told Football Insider:
"Arsenal are very interested in him, from what I've been told. He can play on the left and provide cover for [Bukayo] Saka which they desperately need. Now, they're not the only club interested. We've spoken about Newcastle before and there are others. But they are certainly keen and I think it's one they've been working on in the background for a while."
Sane, 28, has dropped down in the pecking order at Bayern Munich since the start of the ongoing 2024-25 term. He has started none of his seven total appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals.
The ex-Manchester City winger is a two-time Premier League winner.
