Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has likened Trent Alexander-Arnold to Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne.
The Reds managed to defeat Fulham 3-1 in their latest Premier League match on Sunday (April 21). During this fixture, it was the England international's free-kick from just outside the box in the 32nd minute that provided the Merseysiders a first-half lead.
Lavishing praise on his ability to influence the game from a full-back position, Carragher told Sky Sports:
"Just watching him play, he's just coming back into the team from a long time out. He's unique. We've said this before and I think I've described it in the past as almost like having Kevin De Bruyne playing at right back."
The Belgian midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League. He's played 375 matches across competitions for Manchester City, bagging 101 goals and 166 assists.
What makes Alexander Arnold's display more impressive is that the defender has missed 12 matches across February, March and April due to injury. Overall, he's played 32 matches this season for Jurgen Klopp's team, bagging three goals and nine assists.
Alexander-Arnold will also be eyeing a starting right-back spot for England, with the European Championships just around the corner. He's got the likes of Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker to contend with, as a result of which the 25-year-old will have to put in some good performances till the season's conclusion.
Jurgen Klopp heaps praise on Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold after Fulham win
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also heaped praise on his right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold following the defender's performance in the Reds' 3-1 win against Fulham on Sunday.
On the night, the Englishman made one key pass, successfully completed his only attempted dribble, and accurately delivered five out of 13 long balls. Speaking about Alexander-Arnold's goal in particular, Klopp said after the match (via Irish Examiner):
"It was a great goal from Trent and we needed it. Nobody is like Trent in the way he plays the game, so and for a long time today, Trent was exceptional, so it is super helpful to have him back."
Currently, Liverpool are second in the Premier League standings, only behind leaders Arsenal on goal difference. However, Manchester City, who are two points behind the Gunners, have played a game lesser than both their title rivals.
