Former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes Manchester United only have three players good enough for Ruben Amorim to build a team around. The Portuguese head coach took charge at Old Trafford on November 11 and is still coming to terms with the players at his disposal.
The Red Devils have had mixed results under Amorim so far, with four wins and three defeats from his eight games in charge. The Portuguese is attempting to implement his 3-4-3 system at Manchester United but Wright-Phillips reckons he might have to turn to the market for the job.
Speaking to SportsCasting, the Englishman insisted that only Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui are good enough to build a team around at Old Trafford.
“Obviously, Bruno [Fernandes]. I would say Amad [Diallo] as well because I quite like him, his work rate. The way he wants to play, those two suit those midfield areas. I’m not sure if he knows the rest of his midfield," said Wright-Phillips.
He continued:
“I’d also say [Noussair] Mazraoui. He seems to play a lot and he seems to play the way Amorim wants to play. Other than that, I still think he’s still trying to find out who he likes and who he doesn’t like.”
Manchester United are preparing to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Thursday, December 26, at the Molineux.
Will Manchester United offload Marcus Rashford in January?
A recent report from TEAMtalk has suggested that Manchester United are ready to offload Marcus Rashford in January. The Englishman has blown hot and cold in recent times and has dropped down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.
Rashford has been left out of the squad for the Red Devils' last three games. While Amorim has played down the matter, insisting that the decision is due to sporting issues, the incident has sent the rumor mill into overdrive.
Rashord has registered seven goals from 24 games for Manchester United this season. Three of those goals have been scored under Amorim, but all signs indicate that his time at the club could be coming to an end.
The aforementioned report adds that the Premier League giants could let him go for £50 to 60 million next year. While he could be available in January, a move is likelier in the summer.
It is believed that Amorim will have the final say in the 27-year-old's future. Marcus Rashford's contract with the Red Devils runs until 2028.
