Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on Moises Caicedo following his performance against Manchester United on Sunday. The Ecuadorean scored the equalizer in a 1-1 draw as the Blues came away from Old Trafford with a point.

The Red Devils took the lead in the game though a Bruno Fernandes penalty in the 70th minute. However, Caicedo responded for Chelsea, finding the back of the net four minutes later with a fine strike.

Speaking after the game, Maresca pointed out that the 23-year-old had improved a lot in recent weeks. He said via Fabrizio Romano:

“Since we arrived, Moi Caicedo has been fantastic. I said during the week, because the club pay big money, people expect them to be the best. It's normal to be up and down. Moi is improving a lot. He is showing how good he is”.

Manchester United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Moises Caicedo for a bargain fee in January 2021 when he was just 19. Brighton & Hove Albion paid Independiente del Valle £4.5m on Deadline Day that winter and it proved to be a coup.

Chelsea signed the player from the Seagulls for a reported fee of £115m in the summer of 2023. He endured a slow start to life at Stamford Bridge but has picked up pace of late. On Sunday, the Ecuadorean scored once again reminded Manchester United what they had missed out on.

Chelsea and Manchester United have endured contrasting fortunes this season. The Blues are currently fourth in the Premier League table after ten games, while the Red Devils are 13th.

The London giants have registered five wins and three draws in the league this season. Manchester United meanwhile, have only won three games, losing four so far.

The Red Devils opted to part ways with Erik ten Hag following the league defeat to West Ham United at the end of last month. They have already appointed Ruben Amorim as their next Head Coach, with the Portuguese set to take charge at Old Trafford on November 11.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are slowly getting their act together under Maresca. The Italian manager took over at Stamford Bridge this summer as Mauricio Pochettino's successor and made multiple changes to his squad.

He has overseen 16 games for the Blues so far, registering nine wins and four defeats. The London giants next face FC Noah in the Conference League on Thursday.
