Liverpool star Andy Robertson has lifted the lid on Arne Slot's half-time talks with the team in their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town at the weekend. The defender revealed that the tactician wasn't happy with the Reds' performance in the first half.
Liverpool's Premier League opener saw them go head-to-head with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on August 17. In what was Arne Slot's first official game in charge of the team, the Merseysiders struggled to establish control over their opponents in a goalless first half, much to the dissatisfaction of their manager.
During the half-time break, the Dutchman had a prep talk with his players where he communicated his feelings and made them see where they needed to do better. Speaking after the game, Andy Robertson lifted the lid on the tactician's half-time talk, saying:
“He [Slot] wasn’t happy but we knew that,” the right-back was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "He tried to help us see how we could be a bit better on the ball and get a bit closer to the ball when they had it."
“He can raise his voice and tell you he isn’t happy but we’re trying to get solutions of how we can do it better, showing clips and things like that,” he added.
Arne Slot's talk was enough to give Liverpool a much-needed boost. The Reds returned in a brighter shape in the second half and it was only a matter of time before they found solutions against their opponents.
The Reds opened the scoring via a Diogo Jota strike at the 60th-minute mark, with Mohamed Salah providing the assist. The Egyptian would turn scorer five minutes later as he found the back of the net with a brilliant effort to secure a 2-0 win for his side and ensured they had a great start to the term.
