Manchester United legend Roy Keane has singled out teenage forward Alejandro Garnacho for praise following his performance in the Community Shield against Manchester City. The Red Devils fell on penalties to their city rivals in the traditional curtain-raiser of the new English football season on August 10.

Manchester City were on course for back-to-back domestic doubles when they faced rivals United in the FA Cup final in May. Clear underdogs after finishing the league season in eighth place, the Red Devils delivered a top performance to shock their opponents and win the title.

Both sides faced again in the Community Shield at Wembley, and Argentine teenager Alejandro Garnacho (82') scored for the Red Devils. The youngster continued his rich vein of form with the club, having also scored in the FA Cup final.

Pundit Roy Keane spoke about the 19-year-old on ITV, praising him for causing problems for the opposition. The Manchester United legend spoke about the winger as a game-changer who could dictate the direction of a game when he comes on the pitch.

"You know what, when he comes on the pitch, I kind of expect this from him. He will create problems," Keane said (via Utd District).

Garnacho began the game on the bench, having resumed pre-season late following his extended summer holidays. The young forward was part of the Argentina squad that won the Copa America in the USA and had a well-earned rest before resuming pre-season.

The youngster was introduced in place of Amad Diallo after 59 minutes at Wembley, and he opened the scoring with a fine strike in the 82nd minute. He also took responsibility during the penalty shootout, firing his side's third kick past Ederson.

Manchester United succumb to shootout defeat against Manchester City

Manchester United failed to repeat their 2023-24 season FA Cup final trick as they bowed to a defeat against Manchester City on penalties. The Premier League champions claimed a 7-6 shootout victory after the match ended 1-1 in normal time.

Both sides struck the frame of the goal as they sought an opener, but it was Erik ten Hag's men that went ahead after 82 minutes through Garnacho. Minutes after his introduction, Bernardo Silva headed Manchester City level after good work by Oscar Bobb in the 89th minute, sending the game to penalties.

Silva missed the first penalty of the shootout before Jadon Sancho saw his kick stopped by Ederson. Veteran defender Jonny Evans also blazed his kick over the bar, handing Pep Guardiola's side the Community Shield win over Manchester United.
