Arsenal great Paul Merson has suggested that Liverpool will offer Mohamed Salah a new deal until June 2027, ending the ongoing contract saga.
Salah, 32, has been in the news headlines due to speculation about his future in the past few weeks. The Egyptian, whose contract will expire next June, said that he was disappointed not to receive a new renewal offer last month.
Speaking recently to Sky Sports, Merson revealed what he had heard from his sources about Salah's potential new deal. He said (h/t liverpool.com):
"We're only hearing it on the grapevine, but we're hearing two years with a year option to Mo Salah. That's a long time. I'd give him £300-£400 grand-a-week now. Of course, I would today because he's doing the business. I'm his biggest fan. I think he's world-class."
Issuing a warning to Liverpool, the former Gunners midfielder concluded:
"I'll say he gets in every team in the world. He's a winger and he's the top scorer in the Premier League. It's just absolutely amazing, the numbers he puts up week in, week out, year in, year out. But in two-and-a-half years' time, that's a lot of money to be giving someone if they're not doing the business then."
So far this campaign, Salah has scored 15 goals and contributed 12 assists in just 21 matches across all competitions for Arne Slot's outfit.
Liverpool urged to part ways with 25-year-old
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that his former team will try to offload Darwin Nunez ahead of the 2025-26 season. He said on The Overlap (h/t Mirror):
"I'm not sure he will be here next season. I think Liverpool will move him on."
When asked by Manchester United great Gary Neville if Nunez is better than AC Milan forward and former Reds star Divock Origi, Carragher responded:
"He is better than Origi."
Arsenal legend Ian Wright disagreed with Carragher and opined:
"I would fancy Origi to score more than him."
Neville revealed that he has the same opinion as Wright, saying:
"So would I."
Since arriving in a potential £85 million move in 2022, Nunez has started 69 of his 114 matches across all competitions for the Merseyside club. He has contributed 36 goals and 19 assists in 6,359 minutes of action for the Reds.
Origi, on the other hand, registered 41 goals and 15 assists in 6,959 minutes of action, spread across 175 overall outings, for the Anfield side.
