Football pundit Danny Murphy has expressed worry that Trent Alexander-Arnold could Liverpool next summer. He, however, added that the club's fans would understand if he left for Real Madrid.
Murphy was discussing the right-back's Liverpool future on talkSPORT. He believes that the defender is already hinting at a move away next summer when his contract expires. He said:
"Trent looks as good as I've seen him in years physically, which is now helping his 1-on-1 defending. He looks quicker, sharper and stronger than I've seen him in a long, long time. The only thing on top of that the interview he did… some of his answers are a tad worrying for me, about his future."
Murphy added:
"If he did go to Madrid a lot of L'pool fans would understand, the fact is… his wording in that interview to me suggests he's open to the idea of going somewhere else and that's concerning."
Trent Alexander-Arnold has a year left on his contract at the club. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also in the final year of their respective contracts at the club and are yet to pen new deals.
Trent Alexander-Arnold hints at Liverpool exit amid Real Madrid links
Trent Alexander-Arnold spoke to The Athletic last week and hinted that his time at Liverpool was coming to an end. He added that he would not be talking about his new contract until it was signed and said:
"Look, I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. This one won't be either."
He further said:
"I want to be a Liverpool player this season (as a minimum) is what I will say. The most important thing is trophies. I want to win trophies. I'm a player who is highly motivated by winning things and being elite. That's probably the main factor of anything. If you have a personality that's elite, who wants to win and will do anything to win, then that's what drives them."
Liverpool are reportedly keen to get Alexander-Arnold to extend his deal at the club. Real Madrid are said to be keeping tabs as they see him as an ideal replacement for Dani Carvajal.
