Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has urged Barcelona to sign 23-year-old Germany international Angelo Stiller to strengthen their squad. Matthaus considers Stiller a good fit for the Blaugrana midfield.

Angelo Stiller is a defensive midfielder who rose through the Bayern Munich youth ranks to make his first-team debut. After brief stints at Bayern (2020-21) and TSG Hoffenheim (2021-23), Stiller joined VfB Stuttgart in August 2023 for a reported €5.6 million.

He is currently on a four-year deal, set to expire in June 2027. Stiller has contributed two goals and eight assists in 53 outings for Stuttgart across competitions. The 23-year-old also has three caps for Germany.

In an interview with SPORT, Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus urged Barcelona boss Hansi Flick to sign Angelo Stiller. He said (via GOAL):

"Stiller would be good for Barca because of his style of play. I trust him and if Barcelona were to sell players, his signing would be possible and sensible. Stiller could put his stamp on Barcelona and organize the midfield there."

Barca were briefly linked to Angelo Stiller in the last summer transfer window although the deal did not go through. SPORT suggest the Catalan giants could land Stiller for a reported €25-30 million if they remain interested next summer.

Since the departure of Sergio Busquets in 2023, La Blaugrana have struggled to reinforce the pivot position. The Catalan side had been banking on La Masia graduates Marc Bernal and Marc Casado this season until the former picked up a season-ending ACL injury in August 2023.

As such, Barca could benefit from signing a pivot next summer. The potential departure of Frenkie de Jong, who has been linked to an exit, could also pave the way for Stiller's signing.

According to reports by Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez, Barcelona could be forced to terminate Frenkie de Jong's contract if he does not leave the club this summer. The Dutch midfielder's current contract ends in 2026.

As per the report, Barca have been negotiating with De Jong for a potential contract renewal for a while. However, despite making an offer, the Dutchman has reportedly not shown any desire to renew at the club. The Catalan outfit are reportedly worried about the midfielder leaving for free after his contract expires.

La Blaugrana are reportedly keen on selling Frenkie de Jong if he fails to provide clarity about his future by next summer. They are also exploring the option of terminating his contract to free up the wage bill amid their well-documented financial woes.
