Manchester United fans are unhappy with Ruben Amorim’s decision to include Portuguese defender Diogo Dalot in the starting lineup in the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday, January 5. Both sides will lock horns for the reverse fixture of the 2024-25 EPL campaign at Anfield.
Amorim’s side have lost their last three league games while also languishing in the 14th position on the Premier League table. Liverpool, on the other hand, are enjoying a fine run of form, winning their last three games. The Reds also have a healthy lead atop the Premier League table.
Both teams have released their respective starting lineups for the clash, and Diogo Dalot was once again included in the starting lineup for Manchester United. The Portuguese international has been a key figure for the Red Devils in the ongoing season.
Not only has he featured in all of Manchester United’s games across competitions this term, but has also started the entire games except one against FK Bodø/Glimt in the Europa League.
However, his inclusion in the starting lineup against Liverpool didn’t sit well with fans, and they took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their displeasure.
A fan wrote:
''How tf does Dalot keep starting.''
Another tweeted:
''Dalot at winger back gives us headache.''
''Why is Dalot still starting? Anyway GGMU,'' another asked.
''Terminate Dalot’s contract he’s not good enough,'' another wrote.
''Why do we keep starting Mazraoui and Dalot as wingbacks ffs,'' a fan expressed his curiosity.
''Damn! Maz- Dalot wb combo. Another L successfully,'' another chimed in.
Ruben Amorim says Manchester United players are 'anxious and afraid' ahead of Liverpool match
In the pre-match press conference of Manchester United’s game against Liverpool, Ruben Amorim stated that his players are 'anxious and afraid' on the pitch. The Red Devils have lost their last three EPL games. They haven’t lost four consecutive league games in the same season since 1979. A defeat at Anfield this evening will see them match the unwanted record.
Rubem Amorim told reporters:
''Yes, they are anxious and sometimes afraid on the pitch. So, we have to cope with that. We need the leaders to step up. To help the other guys and I’m the most responsible person here to improve the performance. So, you can see that the players are trying. Sometimes, they are too anxious, too afraid to play football because this is a difficult moment and then we will help the players to be better’’
Manchester United have amassed 22 points after 20 games, while Arne Slot’s side have garnered 45 points from 18 games.
