Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder-turned-television-pundit Glenn Hoddle has responded hilariously at Arsenal's title credentials while predicting the title race. He insisted that Liverpool are his favorites for the Premier League title thanks to their excellent start to the season.
Hoddle was asked to pick his favorite for the Premier League title as the anchor joked that he would certainly not pick Arsenal. Hoddle remarked that if he did that, he would not be able to walk down the street.
The pundit named Arne Slot's Liverpool as the front-runners for the title, especially if they can get results in their games against Manchester City. Hoddle was asked on TalkSPORT, as quoted by TBR Football:
“Just one last one Glenn, who would be your favorites to win the Premier League. I know you can’t say Arsenal, so would it be Liverpool or would it be City?”
Hoddle replied:
“I can say Arsenal, but I wouldn’t be able to walk down the street. I generally think Liverpool. I think they are contenders now. They have a buffer over Arsenal and they have to get that buffer over City. I think if they can get results against them they seriously have a chance this year.”
Hoddle insisted that Rodri has been a huge miss for Manchester City but the Cityzens could get a lift if Pep Guardiola signs a new deal. He added:
“Rodri has been a big miss for City, if Pep signs a new contract that will lift the club, and the club needs lifting in some ways.”
It is to be noted that Guardiola has indeed agreed on a one-year contract extension with the club with the option of a further year until 2027.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are currently five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table with 28 points in 11 games. Arsenal, on the other hand, are fourth with just 19 points, with Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brighton also on same points.
Emmanuel Petit urges Arsenal to sign former Chelsea star in January
Former France international midfielder Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to sign former Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante. The 54-year-old has insisted that the World Cup-winning midfielder still has plenty to offer at the highest level and can be useful for the Gunners.
Petit, who won four trophies with the north London giants between 1997 and 2000, has claimed that Kante will offer Arteta a solid option in midfield. He also insisted that Kante's addition will be a big mental boost for the Gunners. Petit told Casino Hawks, as quoted by Metro:
"N’Golo Kante still has what it takes to play at the highest level, I have a huge respect for him as a player, he just might not be able to play as often as he did. He isn’t exactly the same player as he was but he is 33 and still has real quality, his personality and his character and commitment can be so valuable to a club."
Petit, a member of France's World Cup winning side in 1998, added:
"He is in Saudi but could still be a real asset for a team like Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, he would be top class in a rotation for Arsenal and it would be a good move for him too. In terms of mentality, he would give 100 per cent for his team-mates, he brings something special."
Kante spent seven long seasons at Chelsea where he won six trophies while making 269 appearances for the Blues. He left for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in 2023, where he has made 54 appearances while contributing five goals and seven assists.
