Enzo Maresca has tipped defender Levi Colwill to become a future Chelsea captain and also revealed that fellow centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has emerged as the most vocal in the dressing room. The Blues have slumped to an alarming low during the festive period, picking up only one point from their last three Premier League games.

Colwill is a product of Chelsea’s youth academy, while Adarabioyo moved to Stamford Bridge from London rivals Fulham in the summer of 2024. The duo have combined at the heart of the Blues' defense in the last four games.

Despite being a part of Chelsea's shambolic defense lately, Maresca spoke highly of the two defenders. The Italian manager is delighted with Colwill's leadership quality and said (via Tribal Football):

“I can see the leader day by day since we started in pre-season, something that he can improve in terms of leadership. He is improving a lot. Levi, even if he is not wearing the armband, is one of the captains and in the future, he could be a captain of this club. Since we started, he is improving a lot.”

Maresca also praised Adarabioyo, saying:

“Sometimes you have different kinds of leaders. Leaders that don’t talk much but when they do the rest listen a lot. We have different kinds of characters. The one that is most vocal in the dressing room is Tosin. But they are different all of them.”

''The manager is pushing us everyday'' – Tosin Adarabioyo on Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca

Tosin Adarabioyo commended Enzo Maresca’s impact on the Chelsea team in December. The former Fulham man said the Italian manager is pushing the Blues squad every day to ensure they do the right things.

Adarabioyo told the club’s website a few days after the Blues 2-1 victory against Brentford in mid-December:

''We focus every single day in training and hope the results come with that. We take each game as it comes. The manager is pushing us every single day to make sure we are doing the right things and preparing for each game. We’ve got top players. When everyone puts in a shift – and against Brentford, we put in an amazing shift off the ball – it’s always good to see. Our next focus now is Shamrock Rovers.''

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League with 36 points from 20 matches, nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand.
