Former Liverpool defender and football pundit Mark Lawrenson has fueled the rumors of Trent Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid from Liverpool next season.
The Liverpool right-back has reportedly been linked with a move to Los Blancos since the start of the season. He is in the final year of his contract with The Reds and could join Carlo Ancelotti's side as a free agent next season.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a homegrown talent at Anfield, having joined the youth side in 2015. He was eventually promoted to the first team in 2016 under Jurgen Klopp. In 316 games for The Reds across competitions, the English defender has scored 19 goals.
However, his main strength lies in his ability to launch an inch-perfect ball into the penalty area from the right flank. This has resulted in him amassing 83 assists for Liverpool so far.
Speaking about Alexander-Arnold's future in an interview with Sports Casting, Lawrenson lauded his passing abilities and said that he doesn't see him at Anfield next season. The pundit said (via GOAL):
"I think Trent Alexander-Arnold is most definitely up there with the best Premier League right backs of all time when he’s in full flow. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better right back in terms of delivering the ball to players.
"He probably isn’t among the best defenders in the world, but it doesn’t really matter because he just sees passes that other players can’t – that ball into Mohamed Salah in the first game of the season against Ipswich was unbelievable.
"However, I don’t think Trent will be at the club at the start of next season – I can see him being attracted to playing at Real Madrid. He has an England team-mate in Jude Bellingham there and I can see him playing for them next season. If you really wanted to stay at Liverpool, then would you not have signed your contract by now?"
At Real Madrid, Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a perfect replacement for Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard will turn 33 next January and will need to be replaced in the long run.
Liverpool keen to sign Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goes as potential replacement for Mohamed Salah
According to a report by journalist Eduardo Inda (via Spanish outlet Fichajes), Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes has been handpicked by Liverpool as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian will turn 33 next year and his current contract with The Reds expires in June 2025.
Rodrygo joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2019 from Santos and has become a regular in Carlo Ancelotti's team. In 225 games for Real Madrid across competitions, the Santos academy graduate has netted 57 goals and laid out 43 assists.
However, his contract with the La Liga giants doesn't run out till 2028 and he might be priced at well over £100 million because of his form and age.
