Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has declined to make comments about the registration saga involving Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo. He claimed that he had insufficient knowledge about the situation.
Barcelona are at risk of losing both Olmo and Pau Victor for the second half of the 2024-25 season. The club is yet to re-register the two players after their initial registration for the season expired on Tuesday (December 31).
La Blaugrana signed Olmo from German outfit RB Leipzig last summer for a reported £51 million. LaLiga's salary limit made it impossible to register the 26-year-old for the entire season. However, injuries to some first-team members gave way for Olmo to be registered temporarily for only the first half of the campaign.
On New Year's Eve, LaLiga released a statement confirming that Olmo and Victor are yet to be registered for the rest of the season. They went ahead to remove both player's profiles from their website. Spanish football governing body RFEF, has also sided with LaLiga, having refused to grant Barcelona registration licenses for the two players.
When asked about the registration saga in a pre-match conference ahead of Real Madrid's league clash with Valencia on Friday (January 3), Ancelotti replied (via Madrid Xtra on X):
"Dani Olmo case? I don't know much about this, I can't speak."
La Blaugrana reportedly has up until January 3 to rectify the situation. Otherwise, they could end up losing Olmo and Victor as free agents.
Real Madrid will look to extend point gap on rivals Barcelona amid registration saga
Real Madrid will look to further extend the point difference between them and Barcelona in the standings when they play Valencia on Friday. Los Blancos are second in the table with 40 points, and sit directly above Barca with a two-point gap, having played a game less.
A win over Valencia at the Mestalla will extend the points gap to five. Madrid could also overtake Atletico Madrid at the top of the table. Diego Simeone's side currently lead the standings with 41 points and have played the same number of games as Real Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti's boys ended 2024 on a high. They recorded four wins and a draw from five league matches in December.
