Lamine Yamal's agent Jorge Mendes recently opened up about his agent's contract at Barcelona. He asserted that the youngster will renew his contract soon and continue at the club.
Yamal came through Barca's famed La Masia academy and has become a key player for them. He's made 72 senior appearances at just 17 years of age, recording 13 goals and 21 assists. However, his contract is set to expire in 2026.
In a recent interview, Yamal's agent Jorge Mendes provided an update on the winger's contract situation.
“Lamine Yamal will surely renew soon, he must stay at Barcelona. I can’t tell you if he will renew in a month or two, but it will definitely happen,” he said via Mundo Deportivo (via Barca Blaugranes).“The truth is that Lamine was phenomenal last season. For me and for many others he was the best player in the world last year, both with Spain and with FC Barcelona.
“He is a totally different player to all the others: he knows what he needs for his future, he is a balanced boy and I think he is ready to be at the top for many years to come. Now he is recovering from the injury, he must be a little patient and he will soon be back in the team.”
Yamal is currently out injured due to an ankle injury and is expected to remain out for a few weeks.

Lamine Yamal won the Best Emerging Player of the Year award at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Friday, December 27. He had already won the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy awards earlier this year.
Yamal has received praise from all over the world at such an early age due to his immense performances for Barcelona and Spain. After his latest accolade on Friday, he was asked how he copes with such fame and scrutiny. He answered (via Goal):
"At the end of the day, I focus on thinking and playing football. I am incredibly thankful for all the legends who have spoken kindly about me, especially Neymar, who has been my idol forever."
Yamal scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 50 games across competitions for Barcelona last season. However, he played a key role in Spain's UEFA Euro 2024 triumph, registering one goal and four assists in seven appearances.
