Will Liverpool let go of Salah and others?

Liverpool legend Ian Rush would like to see the trio of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold stay put at the club. The three players are now in the final year of their respective contracts.

Speaking to ESPN, Rush underlined the trio's importance for Liverpool, saying that even without goals, they have a lot to contribute to the team. He wants Salah, Trent and Van Dijk to extend their respective deals. He said:

“For me, I’d like to see Mo Salah stay. He’s an asset to the team, he may not score as many goals as what he has done in recent years, but look at his assists. He seems to make more assists than goals. The same can be said for Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. They are in the final year of their contracts, so it’s going to be an interesting season. As a L'pool fan, I’d like to see the three of them stay.”

The respective contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold expire in the summer of 2025. New manager Arne Slot has a huge task at hand to convince them to extend their stay.

John Barnes also spoke about Mohamed Salah's future and expressed his wish for the Egyptian to stay at Liverpool. He pointed out that the club were in a transition period following Jurgen Klopp's departure and it was up to the forward to decide if he wanted to be a part of the rebuild, telling MyBettingSites:

“It depends on what Mo wants to do. If Mo wants to play a role in the L'pool rebuild and restructuring for one last year then he should be staying, if he doesn’t want to then the club should let him go. I’m sure the club wants him to stay because he’s a fantastic player but it’s down to Mo and how committed he is going to be. There’s a lot of speculation around him but I’ve always said a player like Mo, a top player will always be welcomed at L'pool and should stay.”

Mohamed Salah reportedly has interest from Saudi Pro League sides. Al Ittihad reportedly placed a bid for him last summer, which was rejected by the Reds, who were unwilling to sell him even for over £100 million.
