"I would not deny it" - Jurgen Klopp makes bold claims about Liverpool's transfer plans as he names one position they are not looking to improve

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen his squad

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that that the Reds would consider strengthening all positions except the goalkeeping department this summer.

Klopp's side have had an underwhelming 2022-23 season as they were knocked out of all cup competitions by March. They also risk missing out on UEFA Champions League football next season as they are fifth in the Premier League with two games left. Fourth-placed Manchester United have a one-point lead over the Anfield outfit and have a game in hand.

Hence, Liverpool are already looking ahead to the next season, with planning for the summer transfer window underway. The Reds confirmed this week that Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave the club when their contract ends in June. They are thus expected to make major additions to their squad ahead of the 2023-24 season, especially in midfield.

Klopp has now said that the Merseyside-based club are open to signing players in all positions except goalkeeper. The German added that Liverpool would consider signing a central defender if a suitable option is available.

"We look in all departments apart from goalkeeper at the moment," Klopp told a press conference (via The ECHO). "Yes, if there is a good one (center-back) out there, I would not deny it. That's all. We look at all areas of the pitch, definitely."

The Reds have Alisson Becker, Adrian and Caoimhin Kelleher as goalkeeping options. Alisson is expected to remain as the team's No. 1, but there have been doubts about Adrian and Kelleher's futures.

Adrian has his contract ending in June and Kelleher is said to be keen to secure regular playing time. However, Klopp hinted that both will be at Anfield next season.

Liverpool likely to sign at least two midfielders

The midfield has long been identified as a major pain area for Liverpool. Apart from James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arthur Melo is also set to depart the club when his loan deal ends. Hence, the Reds are likely to sign at least two midfielders this summer, according to The ECHO.

Jurgen Klopp's side have been heavily linked with Brighton & Hove Albion's Alexis Mac Allister recently. The Argentinian is prepared to move to Merseyside, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (h/t @AnfieldEdition on Twitter). The Seagulls will allow the midfielder to leave for less than £65 million, according to the report.

Chelsea's Mason Mount has also been mooted as an option for the Anfield outfit. According to multiple reports, the Blues will sell the Englishman if he does not extend his contract beyond 2024. Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch and Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella among others.
