Chelsea icon Joe Cole was left excited after seeing the Blues overwhelm West Ham United, likening the attacking quality on display to Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool. The Blues were stellar at the London Stadium as they picked up only a second win in eight visits to East London by a 3-0 scoreline.
Formerly of Chelsea and West Ham himself, Joe Cole was impressed by the level of quality displayed by the Blues' frontline in the game. They were too strong for the Hammers, with their movement, directness and finishing helping to put the game to bed.
Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole said that he was taken aback by the effectiveness of the visiting attack in the game. He likened their performance to those put out by the legendary Liverpool trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Joe Cole said:
"There looked a clear way of playing, there looked like cohesion. From the goalkeeper right the way through, the counter-attacking was exceptional, the way they got in behind. I don't want to get carried away but there were glimpses that reminded me of that Liverpool side with Mane, Salah and Firmino."
Chelsea appeared to rip through the West Ham backline at will, with Nicolas Jackson putting on a commanding performance to score two lovely goals. Cole Palmer also added his name to the scoresheet in the second half with a fine effort created by Jackson's pass in transition.
Enzo Maresca's side certainly could have won by more, with their profligacy letting them down for much of the second period. This did not matter, however, as they picked up a third successive away league victory to momentarily climb up to second in the log.
Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca emulates former boss in win over West Ham
Chelssa coach Enzo Maresca became the first Premier League manager since Pep Guardiola in 2016 to win his first three away matches in the league. The Italian masterminded a rare 3-0 win for the Blues against Julen Lopetegui's West Ham at the London Stadium.
Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm of affairs over the summer and has seen his side perform impressively for the most part of the season thus far. The Blues have scored 11 league goals this season, with only champions Manchester City having found the net more.
Enzo Maresca refuses to be carried away with what has been an impressive start to life as Chelsea boss, preferring to have his feet firmly on the ground. The Blues will face Barrow in the Carabao Cup in midweek before facing Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
