Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez is unlikely to improve. The Uruguayan failed to impress against Newcastle United on Wednesday, December 4, in the Premier League.

The Reds could only manage a 3-3 draw against the Magpies at St. James' Park. In an end-to-end game, Alexander Isak gave the hosts the lead before Curtis Jones scored the equalizer.

Antony Gordon then sent Newcastle ahead once again, only for Mohamed Salah to bring the Merseyside club back into the game. When it looked like the Egyptian had ensured a win with his second of the night, Fabian Schaefer secured a point for the Magpies.

Nunez started the game but had an outing to forget. He missed a couple of good chances and failed to justify his selection.

Speaking on The Overlap, Wright insisted that the Uruguayan hasn't lived up to his price tag since arriving from Benfica in 2022.

“I don’t care - it’s still 85 [million]. I would’ve thought for that price we would have seen a lot more from him by now. It is not going to be any different to what he is now,” said Wright.

To which Carragher responded:

“I’m not sure he will be here next season. I think Liverpool will move him on."

The Reds legend went on to add that Nunez is better than Divoc Origi. However, Wright insisted that the Dutchman would score more goals than the Uruguayan.

“I would fancy Origi to score more than him,” said Wright.

Nunez has registered just three goals and two assists from 18 games for Liverpool this season.

Will Mohamed Salah extend his stay with Liverpool?

Liverpool manager Arne Slot remains hopeful that Mohamed Salah will extend his stay at Anfield. The Egyptian's contract expires with the Reds next summer and he hasn't signed a new deal yet.

Speaking after Wednesday's game, Slot was full of praise for Salah.

“We are hoping and we expect he can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half, he did many special things for us. Mo had a massive impact. It’s difficult to predict the future but Mo’s in an incredible place in a very good team that gives him opportunities at the moment and he’s able to do special things," said Slot via The Gaurdian.

Salah has scored 15 goals and set up 12 more from 21 games across competitions for Liverpool this season.
