Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen has claimed that William Saliba will be furious with David Raya due to the Spaniard's error in Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

Earlier this Wednesday (April 23), the Gunners failed to make the most of their dominance in front of their fans. They took the lead twice, but Oliver Glasner's side scored two equalising goals on either side of the break.

With the score tied at 2-1 to the hosts, Saliba gifted possession to Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta near his penalty box. Mateta chipped Raya in style, punishing the 29-year-old goalkeeper for being out of position.

After the end of the contest, Owen claimed that Saliba is completely not at fault as Raya should have made an angle for a pass back to goal. He said on the Premier League Productions (h/t Metro):

"Everybody knows Raya takes big angles. But once the angle is a closed one, once Saliba is about to go wide to [Jurrien] Timber, or potentially, Raya should be sprinting back to make his new angle just in case he comes back. He [Raya] was never, ever going to be in the game and I feel sorry for Saliba because all he does is make one mistake in many ways."

Owen, who also represented Manchester United as a player, continued:

"If I was Saliba there, I would be going into the dressing room screaming at Raya, screaming at him. Okay, make an angle, that's fine, help me out sometimes, but if you're in doubt just get in a position where I can always pass to you. When I'm in trouble, at least I can go safe."

Martin Keown opines on Arsenal star's recent mistake

Speaking on the Premier League Productions, former Arsenal star Martin Keown shared his two cents on William Saliba's mistake against Crystal Palace. He said (h/t Metro):

"I think it's crept in because of the sloppiness with Arsenal just trying to see out games, tonight was a victory in not getting injuries, because there's a huge game coming up and I think when you're just down from 100 per cent, you make mistakes."

Following their 13th league draw of the season, Arsenal are second in the table with 67 points from 34 outings. Their title rivals, Liverpool, only need a point against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this Sunday to be crowned 2024-25 Premier League champions.

Mikel Arteta's outfit will next face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg contest on Tuesday (April 30).
