Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has spoken after his heroics helped his side record a penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round. The Turkish goalkeeper saved two penalties during the tie to ensure that his side progressed to the fourth round.

Backup goalkeeper Bayindir was the hero for ten-man Manchester United as they claimed an impressive shootout victory over their rivals. The Turkiye international saved a penalty from Martin Odegaard during the game before denying Kai Havertz during the shootout.

After the game, Bayindir spoke with the media about the impact he had on his team's success. The 26-year-old stated that all that matters to him is helping his team achieve its goals, pointing out that he recognizes the importance of staying ready at the club.

"I just want to help everyone at this great football club! You have to be ready at every second if you are a Manchester United player,” Bayindir said (via Fabrizio Romano).

Bayindir made six saves during the game, including one to deny Declan Rice from point-blank range in the second half. The former Fenerbahce man showed his quality in the game, as he helped banish memories of the side's exit from the Carabao Cup last month.

Altay Bayindir has had to be patient since making the switch to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023, with former manager Erik ten Hag preferring Andre Onana for all games. The goalkeeper became the first on record from the Premier League to save a penalty during regulation time and in the shootout of an FA Cup game.

Resolute Manchester United overcome Arsenal to progress in the FA Cup

Manchester United showed great spirit and desire to defeat Arsenal in the FA Cup third round despite playing an hour with a man less than their opponents. The Red Devils won the game 5-3 on penalties after playing out a 1-1 draw at the end of 120 minutes.

Ruben Amorim's side took the lead against the run of play in the 52nd minute, as Alejandro Garnacho set up captain Bruno Fernandes, who scored a fine goal. Nine minutes later, they went down to ten men as Diogo Dalot received a second booking and a sending off.

Arsenal equalised immediately afterwards, with Gabriel Magalhaes finding the net via a huge deflection. The Gunners then missed a string of chances through Kai Havertz and Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard's penalty was saved by Altay Bayindir.

Manchester United held on to take the game to a shootout. Havertz was the only one to miss as the Red Devils recorded a 100% success rate from the spot to win 5-3 and book a fourth round meeting with Leicester City.
