Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has opened up on the rumored interest from Manchester City. The Brazil international has reportedly been on the radar of the Premier League champions for long as he continues to impress in the English top-flight.

Bruno Guimaraes cost Newcastle a reported £33 million when he joined from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022. He has since been a regular for the Magpies and was also named their captain this summer.

The Cityzens were reportedly interested in the Brazilian this summer but couldn't complete a deal. The midfielder has now spoken to Globo about the interest from the English giants. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):

“It shows I'm at a high level, but nothing more than rumours… I spoke to Pep once, I praised his work, he praised my work. I know Guardiola likes my football, it's normal to have great coaches admire your football."

Manchester City may renew their interest in Bruno Guimaraes following the ACL injury suffered by Ballon d'Or winner Rodri in September. The Spaniard is expected to be out for the rest of the season, leaving the side without a specialist midfield controller.

Guimaraes has featured in all 11 of his side's Premier League games this season, providing an assist from his deep midfield role. He has also played in all three of their Carabao Cup games, including their 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Round of 16 in October.

Manchester City manager set to pen new contract - Reports

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly agreed to a contract extension with the Premier League champions. The Spanish manager is currently in the final year of his contract, and his future was mired in uncertainty due to the impending exit of the club's director of football Txiki Begiristain.

The Athletic report that Guardiola has agreed to a one-year extension until 2026, with the option of an extra year. The former Barcelona boss has been in Manchester since 2016, making the City job his longest-ever association with a club as manager.

Guardiola led City to an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title in the 2023-24 season and has his side gunning for a fifth straight crown. The Spaniard has won the treble in his time at the club, as well as six league crowns in eight seasons.
