Jude Bellingham opened up on his performance after he scored a sensational late goal to level the scores for England against Slovakia in the Euro 2024 Round of 16 on Sunday, June 30. The Real Madrid midfielder stated that he was confident in his ability to deliver in the moments that matter.

After the game, Bellingham said (via ITV):

“I know what I can deliver in those moments.”
“Regardless of what people say, I've done it this year for Madrid and I've done it for England before. I am just happy to help the team.”

The 21-year-old was not having a particularly memorable night against Slovakia. Coming into the game as certain underdogs, they shocked the Three Lions by taking the lead in the first half through Ivan Schranz.

They held on brilliantly in the 90 minutes of regulation time until Bellingham's splendid acrobatic effort in the 90+5th minute equalised the game. It proved to be a moment of magic in a game where England had not registered a shot on target until then.

They completed a quick turnaround, scoring immediately in extra time. Harry Kane headed home from close range to make it 2-1 and ensure Gareth Southgate's men progressed to the quarter-finals.

England striker Harry Kane heaped praise on midfielder Jude Bellingham after the side edged out a 2-1 win over Slovakia in the Round of 16 of Euro 2024. The pair got on the scoresheet with the Real Madrid youngster scoring late in regulation time to save the game for the Three Lions.

After the game, Kane said (via ITV):

“It looked tough for us there, but you keep going. We’d worked on so many details during the week, and we said we might need a long throw. Jude did what Jude does - he’s kept our tournament alive."
“It’s one of the best goals in our country’s history, I reckon. What a player he is. It shows what he can do - in the big moments, he steps up."

It was another timid performance from Gareth Southgate's side, who were saved from the brink of elimination by a stunning bicycle kick from Bellingham. Kane added another in extra time to bag the win for the Three Lions.

The result means that England have progressed to the quarterfinal stage, where they will face Switzerland. Murat Yakin's side are coming off a 2-0 win over defending champions Italy.
