"I’ll get in trouble" - Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim on potential move for striker Vitor Gyokeres

Incoming Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has remained coy about taking Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford in 2025. The Swedish forward has transformed into a goalscoring phenomenon under the Portuguese manager at Sporting.

Gyokeres has registered 66 goals and 19 assists from 67 games across competitions for the Portuguese club so far. He scored a hattrick in the 4-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday, November 5, and has been linked with the Red Devils for a while.

Amorim will take charge of Manchester United on November 11 but has already stated that he will not raid his former club for players in January. That has all but ended any talk of Gyokeres' move to Old Trafford in the middle of the season.

However, speaking on TNT Sports, Amorim hinted that the Swede could leave Sporting at the end of the campaign.

"I can’t make fun of it, right now, it was hard for me to leave, if I start joking about this Gyokeres situation I’ll get in trouble. This is my city, this is my country, so I’ll respect it. Viktor has to stay until the end of the season, and then his life maybe is going somewhere else," said Amorim (via GOAL).

Manchester United have scored just nine goals in ten games in the Premier League this season. They are 13th in the league table with 12 points to their name.

Will Manchester United invest in a new left-back in 2025?

Luke Shaw remains sidelined with injury
Luke Shaw remains sidelined with injury

Manchester United have suffered due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia since last season. The Englishman has missed 57 games for the Red Devils since the start of the last campaign due to multiple injuries.

Shaw picked up a fresh injury just ahead of the start of this season and was initially expected to be back in September. Unfortunately, he faced multiple setbacks and his return had to be rescheduled multiple times.

The Englishman was expected to regain his fitness this month but suffered another setback. With Malacia faring no better, Manchester United have had to rely on stop-gap options for the position.

This season, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have covered the position, but neither is a natural for the role. The absence of a specialist left-back has hurt the Premier League side on both ends of the pitch. The Red Devils could thus be tempted to look for solutions in the winter transfer window or next summer.
