Liverpool boss Arne Slot looks on.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot isn't satisfied with his side's performance in their 1-0 UEFA Champions League win at Girona on Tuesday (December 10). Mohamed Salah scored the only goal of the game from the spot.

After a goalless first half at the Montilivi, the in-form Reds attacker netted the winner midway through the second half to put his side all but through to the last-eight.

The Reds remain the only side in the competition with a 100% record, but Slot explained that his team's intensity left a lot to be desired (as per Mirror):

“If you ask me about all the six games, I’m really pleased with all the results. I’m really pleased with the first five games, but I’m far from pleased about the performance. What wasn’t I pleased about? I wasn’t pleased with a lot, especially two things.
“If you play against a team that has such a good idea about football and knows how to bring the ball out from the back, you need to be so intense if you want to make it difficult for them. But if you are waiting a few seconds to press them, then this team can cause you a lot of problems."

He continued:

“They showed in their games, except PSV, in the Champions League this season. I almost feel sorry for them as they deserve so much more. We had hardly any control at all over the game. Maybe the second half was a bit better – I’m trying to be positive.”

The Reds return to action on Saturday (December 14) at home to Fulham in the Premier League, where they top the standings after 14 games.

"We gave a good account of ourselves" - Girona boss after Liverpool defeat

Girona boss Michel is proud of his team's performance in their defeat to Liverpool. The surprise La Liga high flyers from last season have struggled this campaign but held their own for large swathes against their illustrious visitors.

Girona are ninth in La Liga after 16 games, winning nine, but have struggled in their maiden UEFA Champions League campaign, winning once in six outings. However, Michel said about his team's performance (as per UEFA.com):

"We competed really well, we fulfilled my objective of filling key spaces and we tried to leave Liverpool's central defenders without a reference man to mark so that we could then find our free man. We created chances, especially for Danju (Danjuma). We gave a good account of ourselves, but we went out to win."

Girona aren't out of knockout reckoning just yet but face a difficult task to climb up from 30th place, which they occupy after their defeat to Liverpool.
