Manchester City star Julian Alvarez is gunning for Gold at the Olympics in Paris to complete his glistening trophy cabinet. The young forward has won every trophy available at club and international level but is eager to win a gold medal with Argentina this summer.
Alvarez, 24, spoke ahead of representing La Abiceleste in Paris. He said (via @AlbicelesteTalk):
"I'm missing Olympic medal, I want to win it."
Alvarez has completed football with a trophy haul many can only dream of. He was a prominent member of Argentina's side who won the Copa America trophy just last week. The Manchester City attacker made five appearances in the United States, scoring two goals.
That was the second Copa America trophy Alvarez has won during his career. He's also won the FIFA World Cup and Finalissima with his nation over the past two years.
Alvarez has enjoyed vast trophy success at the Etihad. The Citizens attacker has won the FA Cup, the Premier League twice, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He started his career at River Plate, winning the Argentine Super Cup, Liga Profesional, Copa Libertadores, Recopa Sudamericana, Trofeo de Campeones, and Copa Argentina.
Argentina's football team start their Olympic Games campaign with a clash against Morocco tomorrow (July 24). They are in Group B along with the Moroccans, Iraq, and Ukraine.
Barcelona reportedly want Manchester City's Julian Alvarez to replace Robert Lewandowski
Alvarez's future is the subject of speculation amid talk that he wants out of Manchester City. Reports claim the 36-cap Argentina international has asked to leave and will be allowed to if a €90 million package deal is agreed by interested suitors.
Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been tracking Alvarez, who has four years left on his contract. He's turned down an extension at the Etihad and Pep Guardiola is angered by his participation at the Olympics.
Football 365 cite reports from Spain claiming Barcelona are eyeing Alvarez as Robert Lewandowski's replacement. The Catalans' president is said to be 'in love' with the versatile attacker.
Alvarez was in fine form last season, posting 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 games across competitions. Barca feel now is the time to replace Lewandowski, 35, who endured a topsy-turvy 2023-24 campaign. The iconic Polish striker has two years left on his contract at Camp Nou.
