Roberto Firmino gave an emotional message following his last game at Anfield as a Liverpool player. This came after the Reds secured a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa on Saturday (May 20) in which the Brazil international himself netted a last-minute equalizer to salvage a point.

Firmino opened up on his early troubles of adjusting to his new surroundings when he first joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim back in 2015 for a fee of around £29 million. The forward, however, acknowledged the contribution of his fellow teammates and manager Jurgen Klopp for his successful stint at the club.

Speaking after the game against Aston Villa, Roberto Firmino was quoted as saying the following (via the club's website):

“In the beginning when I arrived it was hard to adapt to the climate, the football, everything. As for every player, it’s the same. But thank you God, we achieved everything here, we won everything together. Without my teammates, my family, the manager, you cannot do this. I’m very proud of the history, for everything we achieved together.”

Firmino was also pleased to have scored one last goal at Anfield before he leaves Liverpool in the summer. The 31-year-old forward, however, was disappointed to only get a draw against Villa. He added:

“Yes, unfortunately we didn’t get the win, it wasn’t the result that you want. But the last game at home with the fans, my family here, everyone, friends, I was very emotional and happy for this, to score my last goal at home. With this shirt, this big club, I’m very happy.”

It is worth mentioning that Roberto Firmino will leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the contract this summer. According to the Daily Mail last month, the forward had agreed to join Barcelona ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Roberto Firmino will go down as one of Liverpool's modern-day greats

Roberto Firmino will bow out of Liverpool as one of the club's modern-day greats and an absolute fan favorite. The Brazil forward has enjoyed a trophy-laden time whilst on Merseyside.

Firmino was part of the Liverpool side which went on to win every single major honor under the management of Jurgen Klopp. He won the UEFA Champions League title in 2019 and then the Premier League a year later. The attacker also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

Roberto Firmino will also be remembered for scoring the winning goals at the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup semifinal and the final against Monterrey and Flamengo, respectively.
