“I’m struggling to give you three names” - Dwight Yorke feels Amorim has only 2 good players he can build his squad around at Manchester United

Dwight Yorke believes that Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has to build the team around two players, Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo. Since the Portuguese coach has come in, it seems as though superstar forward Marcus Rashford has been pushed down in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, another big-name player, Casemiro, is not among Amorim's first choices as a midfielder. Amid these circumstances, Yorke told Sport Lens (via Football 365):

“I would think Amad would be one now. I think he will be the first one that stands out and the first name that Amorim can put on his team. He’s a player for the future and he’s a player to build around."

Amad has been a standout performer for Manchester United this season, bagging four goals and six assists across competitions.

Picking out the second player, Yorke said:

“Bruno Fernandes, he’s still one of the better players, even though he huffs and puffs. He does his thing, but you can’t ignore his quality. I think he can still give United something, but he’s just turned thirty, so you can’t build around him for the next five years."

He added:

“Amorim can’t hang his hat on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. I used to say that he could hang his hat on Rashford, but he can’t do that anymore. United are missing a brilliant central midfielder who can run a game for you and get you out of trouble when you’re under the kosh."
“I’m struggling to give you three names. There’s a lot of dead wood in that place; I have to be honest with you. I don’t think there are three players that he can build around, I can only give you Amad and Fernandes."

Fernandes continues to put up good numbers for Manchester United, having contributed six goals and 10 assists this season.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim dropped winger Alejandro Garnacho out of his matchday squad for the 2-1 win against Manchester City on Sunday (December 15).

The former Sporting manager has said that the Argentine international was upset with this decision. Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup quarterfinal against Spurs on Thursday (December 19), Amorim stated (via Manchester Evening News):

"He seems a little bit upset with me and that’s perfect. I was really really happy because I would do the same."

However, Amorim has confirmed that Garnacho has trained well and is ready for the Red Devils' upcoming tie. He's netted eight goals and bagged four assists in 24 matches this season.
