Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah has named which trophy he desires the most between the Premier League and the Champions League this season. He went with the domestic competition.
The Merseysiders have been in exceptional form under Arne Slot in both tournaments this term. They lead the league table and are six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
Liverpool have a game in hand over the Gunners as well, offering them the chance to increase this gap to nine. Halfway into the season, this would certainly put Slot's men in pole position to lift the Premier League title.
Meanwhile, the Reds have won all six of their Champions League fixtures so far and lead the standings by three points. They seem set for direct qualification to the knockout stages.
Salah remains at the top of his game, with 30 goal contributions in 18 Premier League appearances. He's also scored two goals and provided four assists in the Champions League this season.
While Salah and Liverpool could very well complete the double this term, the Egyptian does have a preference if he had to choose between the two titles. Speaking to TNT Sports, the former Chelsea forward said (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
“I want to win the Premier League title MORE than the Champions League this year. I really want it, as a team we want it."
The Merseysiders will face Manchester United at Anfield next on Sunday (January 5).
"I didn’t expect he was this good" - Mohamed Salah opens up about working with Liverpool boss Arne Slot
Mohamed Salah has heaped praise on Liverpool boss Arne Slot, admitting that he did not expect a manager of such high caliber. The Egyptian forward hailed Slot's attention to detail as well.
The Merseysiders enjoyed one of their most successful periods ever under Jurgen Klopp. During his nine years at Anfield, the German boss led Liverpool to their first league title in three decades, a Champions League, an FA Cup, and other accolades.
The club icon's departure last summer left fans in despair, and many questioned whether Slot could fill Klopp's shoes. However, the Reds certainly seem in good hands, with the form they've shown under the Dutch manager this season.
Slot's work has earned Salah's plaudits as well. He said:
“Before I worked with Arne Slot, I didn’t expect he was this good… then we started working and I’m not surprised at all. He’s great with details, great with small things, doesn’t have ego when he makes a mistake… he’s great on tactics."
