Cristiano Ronaldo was recently awarded the Platinum Quinas trophy at the Quinas De Ouro Gala organized by the Portuguese Football Federation. The Al-Nassr superstar was honored in the presence of Portugal's Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and the President of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) Fernando Gomes.
Ronaldo is widely considered one of the greatest-ever players. The Portuguese maestro's relentless pursuit of excellence has made him the highest goalscorer in the history of men's football with 908 goals for club and country.
Some prominent accolades in his plethora of individual and collective honors include five Ballons d'Or, four European Golden Boots, three The Best FIFA Men's Player awards, five UEFA Champions League titles, and four FIFA Club World Cups.
After receiving his latest honor, Cristiano Ronaldo walked down memory lane and reminisced some of his favorite memories with the national side. He said (via Hindustan Times):
"It is an honor to receive this trophy. I see it as a beginning. Thank you to the FPF for this award, marking a long journey filled with hard work. At 18, my dream was to earn my first cap. Then I went to 25, 50, and why not 100? A round number, three digits, and then I started thinking about 150, 200, and it’s a tremendous feeling,"
Finally, he commented on the current Portugal team, calling Fernando Gomes the best president FPF has ever had.
"We have everything: stadiums, magnificent coaches, potential in these players, and the stars that we have. Not just in football, but in other sports. Fernando Gomes is the best president we have ever had," he said.
Ronaldo has won a European Championship and a UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
When Cristiano Ronaldo spoke about winning the UEFA Nations League once again with Portugal
In September this year, Cristiano Ronaldo opened up about his desire to win the UEFA Nations League again with Portugal. He won it in 2019 after Portugal defeated the Netherlands in the final.
In an interview with The Athletic, the 39-year-old superstar revealed his drive to bring glory to the national side again. He said:
"It [retirement after Portugal's Euros exit] never crossed my mind that my cycle had come to an end, it even gave me more motivation to continue."
"I want to come to the national team to win the Nations League. We’ve already won that competition once and we want to do it again. I’m not thinking long term, but short term," Ronaldo added.
About his position in the side, Cristiano Ronaldo explained that he always saw himself as a starter, saying:
"In my mind, I’ll always be a starter. Until the end of my career, I’ll always think that I’ll be a starter. I’ll always respect the decisions, not only of the coach, but at the clubs I’ve played for I’ve always respected them."
Ronaldo's last tournament with Portugal was underwhelming at best. The Al-Nassr superstar contributed with just an assist as France eliminated Portugal from Euro 2024 in the quarterfinals on penalties.
