Journalist Charles Watts has claimed that there Arsenal could make a move to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in 2025 summer transfer window. The Gunners were linked with the 21-year-old striker this summer but eventually opted against making any signings for the number nine position.
Slovenia international Sesko has long been coveted by clubs around Europe, having broken out as a RB Salzburg player in 2021. He joined RB Leipzig in 2023 despite interest from multiple sides across Europe, including sides in the Premier League.
Arsenal initiated contacts with RB Leipzig for the transfer of the 21-year-old striker in the summer, but the youngster decided against moving. Charles Watts has spoken via CaughtOffside about the possibility of the move still happening, claiming that the relationship between both parties remains cordial.
“I still think there is a chance that Arsenal will revisit their interest in Benjamin Sesko at some point, maybe even next summer,” Watts said.
“A lot of the groundwork was done before the summer window & I don’t believe there has been any sort of breakdown in relationship behind the scenes just because Sesko opted to stay put.”
“I’m sure Arsenal understood his decision at the time because to be honest it made a lot of sense, from a footballing & development point of view. Look at how things have gone — Sesko is playing regularly, he’s scoring goals & he’s developing nicely.”
Benjamin Sesko signed a new deal with Leipzig in the summer after his participation in Euro 2024 with the Slovenia national team. The striker extended his contract until 2029, which includes a release clause.
Mikel Arteta's side could look to sign a new striker in January to replace the ineffectual Gabriel Jesus.
