Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus provided an update on a suspected injury that forced him off during yesterday's (October 24) Champions League win against Sevilla.
Jesus was extremely influential in handing his side a 2-1 win in Spain, scoring a brilliant second goal (53') while assisting Gabriel Martinelli for the first (45+3').
The 26-year-old attacker curled the ball into the far corner from the left-hand side of the box to double Arsenal's lead at the time. Despite reducing the deficit through Nemanja Gudelj in the 58th minute, Sevilla were unable to find an equaliser.
Jesus came off from Eddie Nketiah in the 81st minute amid scares of a potential injury. The Brazil international already missed four matches this campaign due to a knee problem.
Speaking about the issue after the match, he said (via Mirror):
"I felt something. Let’s see. I did some tests with the physio, it looks not that big, but let’s see. I have a scan, maybe tomorrow. I’m pretty sure it will be nothing."
The former Manchester City attacker has been on song for the Gunners in the Champions League, scoring in every match of the new season so far. He's got three in this competition along with one Premier League strike in the 2023-24 campaign.
Following last night's performance, Jesus' absence would be a huge blow for Mikel Arteta.
Mikel Arteta lavishes praise on Gabriel Jesus Arsenal's win against Sevilla
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta lavished praise on his striker Gabriel Jesus who proved to be the difference maker in the Gunners' 2-1 away win against Sevilla in the Champions League.
Jesus delighted fans as he faked two Sevilla players in the middle of the park before setting up fellow Brazilian Gabriel Marinelli for the game's opener. After the Brazilian managed to get on the scoresheet himself, Arteta said post-match (via Mirror):
"Really happy with that part – big games for big players, and he needed to produce those moments to win in stadiums like this."
"He’s done it, and obviously, he opened the game for us in a great way," he added. "And then, we’re really sad because he felt something in his hamstring, and he had to come off and I’m worried about that."
Arteta expressed concerns over a potential issue for his number nine. Last season, the attacker missed 17 matches across competitions due to fitness concerns. Arsenal will hope that Jesus' injury isn't too serious.
