Ex-Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann has backed his former team to pip Manchester City and Arsenal to the Premier League title this season.
The Reds, who finished nine points behind the champions last campaign, are atop the 2024-25 Premier League table with 21 points from eight games. They recently beat Chelsea 2-1 at Anfield to maintain their slender one-point lead over City in the domestic standings.
Liverpool, who replaced Jurgen Klopp with Arne Slot in the dugout, have registered seven wins and one defeat in the Premier League so far. They have conceded just three goals and have scored 15 goals so far.
Speaking to FlashScore, Hamann shared his honest thoughts on the Anfield side's chances of securing their 20th top-flight title at the end of the campaign. He opined (h/t Mirror):
"I think Liverpool have shown they can win the Premier League. Apart from the Nottingham Forest game, they've been brilliant. The team functions well, everyone is happy and psychologically, and the win against Chelsea is huge. It was an even game but [the Reds] came out on top, which is a massive sign of intent."
Hamann, who represented the Reds 283 times as a player, added:
"Manchester City have lost Rodri, he can't be replaced and Arsenal dropped points... I think Liverpool have a great chance to win the Premier League and go far in the Champions League."
The Anfield outfit will next face RB Leipzig in their UEFA Champions League match at Red Bull Arena this Wednesday (October 23). They will visit Arsenal in their next league contest on Sunday (October 27).
Slot's club have a comparatively difficult run of fixtures in the Premier League after Sunday's match. They will face Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa, Southampton, Manchester City, and Newcastle United next.
Liverpool, Arsenal in race for 20-year-old

Baleba, 20, has impressed with his dogged performances since joining Brighton in a transfer worth up to £26 million from LOSC Lille last summer. He has opened the ongoing season on a fine note, recording two goals and two assists in nine games across all competitions.
So far, the four-cap Cameroon international has started 24 of his 46 appearances across competitions, mostly in a defensive midfield role.
