Pundit Gregor Robertson has spoken about Liverpool winger Ben Doak, who impressed remarkably while on international duty with Scotland. The winger is currently on loan at Middlesbrough. He has been unable to find much playing time at Anfield due to the presence of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.
However, the sky seems to be the limit for 19-year-old Doak, and he received a call-up to the Scotland national team earlier this season. He has played regularly for the Scots, particularly shining in their recent Nations League matches against Poland and Croatia.
Doak helped them to a 2-1 win over Poland at Stadion Narodowy on November 18, providing an assist for John McGinn's early goal (3'). In their 1-0 win over Croatia at Hampden Park on November 15, he troubled the opposition full-back Josko Gvardiol often, getting two successful dribbles and creating two chances.
His impressive performances led to praise from Gregor Robertson, who said on The Game Football Podcast (via TBR Football):
“This guy (Doak) is raw pace. He’s also really technically gifted. He’s thrown the step over at Gvardiol. As I was saying, you’re not entirely sure what footed he is.
“He’s touching the ball, although he’s playing on the right, he’s coming at him, a little cushion forward, touches with his left foot. He can go either way and then, my God, he just gave him, he tortured him. It’s great to watch."
He also spoke about Ben Doak potentially taking over from Mohamed Salah:
“Whatever happens from now, there’s a question mark about Salah playing on the right, whether it’s going to be a very hard task to get in Liverpool’s team going forward. But he’s kind of arrived in senior football now and he’ll always have options... I think he’s a player of enormous potential.”
Ben Doak remains on loan at Middlesbrough, where he has played 10 Championship games, scoring a goal and providing three assists.
Arne Slot opens up about how working for Liverpool has affected his family time
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has spoken about how working in England has affected his time with his family, who stay in Holland. The Dutch tactician decided to take up the reins at Anfield after Jurgen Klopp left the club in the summer.
Slot said about his time on Merseyside in an interview with LFC TV (via Liverpool.com):
“My family has stayed in Holland. That means that if I'm here, actually 99 percent of my time is just working... We have our international breaks, and the good thing then is that your quality time with your children and with your wife, if you are together, increases."
Despite the limited family time he has, Arne Slot has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at Liverpool. He has led the Reds to 15 wins in 17 games across competitions so far, losing just once and drawing once.
