Football pundit Jamie Carragher has advised Liverpool to offer Mohamed Salah a contract extension but not a pay raise. The Egyptian forward is the highest-paid player at Anfield and reportedly earns £350,000 per week.

Mohamed Salah scored twice during Liverpool's 3-3 draw against Newcastle United on Wednesday, December 4. With the brace, the 32-year-old overtook Erling Haaland to become the top scorer of the ongoing Premier League season with 13 goals.

However, Salah's contract with the Reds expires next summer. The Egyptian forward will be allowed to enter into conversations with other clubs from January.

Talking about Salah's contract situation, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher suggested the Merseyside club should not offer him a pay hike as he's already the highest-paid player on the team. He said on the It's Called Soccer! podcast:

"I don't think more. I think he's still one of the highest paid players. I don't think he should get less money, he's still the best player in the team, him and Virgil van Dijk."

Additionally, as per multiple reports, the 32-year-old is considering signing a one-year extension with the Reds. Talking about the length of the potential extension, Carragher stated:

"For me it'll be a two-year contract but if he's willing to sign a year's contract and then Liverpool don't get the deal done. I can assure you I'll do a 180. I'll be looking at the club. My criticism of Mo Salah isn't because of the contract, it's speaking publicly when Liverpool are in such a great position."

The Reds are currently leading the Premier League table with 35 points in 14 matches. Meanwhile, they are also at the top in the UEFA Champions League with 15 points in five matches.

Liverpool set to offer formal contract extension to star: Reports

Liverpool are set to make a formal contract offer to Virgil van Dijk, as per David Ornstein. The Dutch defender's current contract with the Reds will expire in the summer of 2025.

Virgil van Dijk joined the Reds from Southhampton in January 2018 and has since been a crucial part of the team's success. He has made 289 appearances for the Reds, bagging 25 goals and 13 assists, across all competitions.

Additionally, after Jordan Henderson's departure, he was named the full-time captain of the side. Apart from the Dutchman, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold's contracts will also expire next summer.
