England great Paul Gascoigne recently recalled a hilarious Disneyland story involving him and the late Diego Maradona. Gascoigne's Lazio were to face Maradona's Sevilla in a friendly when the incident took place.
Ahead of the game, Gascoigne went on a three-day long bender in Disneyland. When the two teams lined up in the tunnel, the Englishman told Maradona that he was absolutely wasted. Maradona replied, saying that his situation was the same.
Gascoigne took to social media to post a story on the same, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
"Morning ..... f*cking brilliant. I was playing against Maradona in Seville and stopped off at Disneyland in Paris for a 3 day bender on the way. As we lined up in the tunnel I told him I was smashed."
Gascoigne added:
"Diego replied, "Don't worry Gazza, so am I.""
Diego Maradona, apart from being one of the greatest footballers of all time, was a character off the pitch. He entertained fans like very few footballers in the modern era could match up to.
The Argentine FIFA World Cup winner passed away on November 25, 2020, leaving a massive void in the football world.
