British journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing former Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham next summer.
Abraham, who rose up through Chelsea’s youth system, found himself on the fringes at Stamford Bridge following Romelu Lukaku’s transfer and joined AS Roma permanently last summer.
The Englishman scored a whopping 27 goals in 53 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side last season, winning the UEFA Europa Conference League. Nine of his 27 goals came in the Europa Conference League in a mere 12 appearances.
According to Italian media outlet CalcioMercato, Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag was left impressed with his form at Roma last season and wanted to sign him earlier this summer. However, his club eventually turned to Antony, abandoning their interest in Abraham.
With Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in the air and Anthony Martial struggling to remain fit, United could reportedly once again rekindle their interest in Abraham next summer. Speaking to GiveMeSport, Phillips revealed:
“I am told that Manchester United are keen on signing Abraham in the summer.”
The former Chelsea ace, who was Roma’s standout performer in the 2021-22 season, is yet to find consistency this season, scoring only twice in nine Serie A games. His current contract with Roma expires in June 2026, meaning the Red Devils might have to offer Roma a significant sum to secure Abraham’s services next summer.
Abraham played 82 games for Chelsea before signing for Roma last summer, scoring 32 times across competitions.
Cristiano Ronaldo cuts a frustrating figure as Manchester United endure goalless draw against Newcastle United
A week after scoring the 700th club football goal of his career (2-1 win over Everton), Cristiano Ronaldo was named in United’s XI against Newcastle United on Sunday (October 16). The Portuguese superstar failed to make the desired impact, managing neither to work the keeper nor create openings for teammates.
Before being replaced by Marcus Rashford in the 72nd minute, Ronaldo had only one shot, which veered off target. He was caught offside twice, made only 11 accurate passes (57.9% accuracy), and ceded possession eight times. The Portugal skipper was also booked for trying to steal a free kick off Newcastle United in the 49th minute of the match.
