Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant has slammed Darwin Nunez after the Uruguayan struggled to impress during the Reds' recent 3-3 Premier League draw at Newcastle United.

Earlier this Wednesday (December 4), the Reds registered their second Premier League draw of the ongoing 2024-25 season. Curtis Jones netted the first equalizer while Mohamed Salah produced two goals after his team's opener.

Nunez, on the other hand, drew ire from Liverpool fans after failing to convert two chances in the second half of the match. He failed to score from Cody Gakpo's headed pass and mishit a shot from close range later on in the clash.

Speaking to Anfield Index, Pennant claimed that he has lost all faith in the 25-year-old striker and urged Liverpool to move on from him. He said:

"It doesn't surprise me anymore. You can get unbelievable moments from him but he misses far too many sitters, and there were two last night! How much longer can you keep hoping that he turns it around? I'm not convinced and I've already lost all hope on that front. If you're looking for another forward to get 20 goals, you may as well look at Diogo Jota, despite his injury problems."

Nunez, who registered 18 goals and 13 assists in 54 total matches for his club last season, has been in sub-par form under Reds head coach Arne Slot. He has contributed three goals and two assists in 18 overall outings this season.

Liverpool star keen to contribute more for club

During a chat with club media, Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was queried to offer his thoughts on his strike in a 2-0 UEFA Champions League win over Real Madrid last month. The Argentine replied:

"Dreams are there to be fulfilled. I have been achieving things that even in my best dreams I could not have imagined and I am very happy for my present. I enjoy it very much and I am grateful for life. It was special to beat a club like Real Madrid, with so much history and with the team that they have, the players and the individuals that they have."

Opening up on his wish to contribute more goals and assists, he added:

"It's up to me to continue. I like to score goals, I like to assist. I also want to put some emphasis on that, on improving my numbers. I think I can do that. So, I'm happy for what I'm achieving, but at the same time, I always want a little bit more."

Since departing Brighton & Hove Albion for £35 million, Mac Allister has registered nine goals and seven assists in 67 total games for Liverpool.

Mac Allister, 25, is out of contention for his club's Premier League game against rivals Everton at Goodison Park this Saturday due to a suspension.
